Spiritual Detoxification: 3 of 3 Incredible Vegan Lifestyle Benefits to Amplify Awakening

Welcome to article 3 of 3 in this series about how a vegan lifestyle can amplify spiritual awakening. In the first article, we discussed the health benefits of a plant-based diet. In the second article, we explored the potential benefits of a vegan lifestyle on compassion and its relation to enlightenment and spiritual evolution. In this final article, we will explore the other ways veganism provides the potential for spiritual advancement so that you can amplify your awakening as a spiritual Goddess.

Spiritual Detoxification

We have already spoken about the physical detoxification effects of a plant-based diet, but there is much more to detoxification than the physical aspect. In fact, energetic and spiritual detoxification is the most vital part of veganism for spiritual evolution.

Clarity of Energy

“I do it because I love animals and I saw the reality. And I just couldn’t ignore it anymore. I’m healthier for it, I’m happier for it. I can’t imagine that if you’re putting something in your body that is filled with fear or anxiety or pain, that that isn’t somehow going to be inside of you.”~ Ellen DeGeneres

As Ellen explains in the quote above, animals endure intense pain, suffering, and fear when they are subjected to factory farming and slaughter. Everything is energy, including emotions, and these intense negative emotions leave an energetic imprint on the animal’s flesh. When you consume it, you also ingest its pain, fear, and anxiety.

This energy mixes with your own, and because it has such a low energetic vibration, it pulls your own vibration down too. A low vibrational frequency makes it harder to be open to higher states of consciousness because these require a higher frequency alignment.

Choosing not to ingest the low vibrational frequency of pain, fear, and suffering from other beings is the best way to ensure you have the clear and open energy you need for spiritual progress. This is what spiritual detoxification is all about – removing impurities in your energetic field that serve to drag you down and keep you stuck.

Removal of Guilt

“The soul is the same in all living creatures, although the body of each is different.”~ Hippocrates

Another important factor in spiritual detoxification is the removal of guilt and other unskilful mental states. We touched on this in the second article in this series when we discussed compassion.

We are not born thinking it is acceptable behavior to torture and kill others, no matter their species; this is down to social conditioning. So, on a conscious level, because of our conditioning, we believe that what we are participating in is ethical and necessary. But deep down on a subconscious level, in the heart-mind, we know that it is wrong to cause pain and take life for our own pleasure, which is what eating animals is really about.

When we do it anyway, we are acting out of alignment with our deepest core values of non-violence and compassion, which causes an underlying current of guilt, shame, and sadness. These are known as unskilful mental states, and they lower our vibrational frequency and create blockages to spiritual development. Spiritual detoxification can happen by realigning with our natural compassion and refusing to take part in harming other sentient beings, thus removing these negative states. This detoxification of guilt and shame raises our energetic vibration and allows us to enter higher states of consciousness and union with Divine source energy.

Encompassing love and compassion for all beings helps with spiritual detoxification

Recognition of Oneness

“As I am, so are these. As are these, so am I. Drawing the parallel to yourself, neither kill nor get others to kill.”~ The Buddha

As you begin to clear your energy field and remove those unskilful mental states, you start to recognize the energy around you and feel more in tune with the universe and all it contains. After all, we are made of the same universal source energy as everything else. As your spiritual detoxification takes place and your vibrational frequency rises, you see the world and the true nature of reality with new eyes and an open heart. This is how you begin to transcend duality – the idea of a permanent, fixed self in opposition to everything else around you.

In the previous article in this series, we discussed the elements of enlightenment – indiscriminate compassion, boundless energy, and pure conscious awareness of reality. Recognizing that you and other sentient beings are the same helps you understand and experience the true nature of reality, that there is no separation, and that duality is simply an illusion of the ego.

This realization is a profound step towards spiritual evolution and a deep opening and surrendering of the conditioned self. When you can surrender these long-held beliefs about your identity, the idea that you and that cow or pig are separate and completely different in energetic fabrication, you also surrender blockages and break down walls that keep you from opening to your innate spiritual potential. This is one of the most beautiful facets of veganism – dissolving the bonds of duality and the realization of unification with all things.

Sacredness in Everyday Life

“Love is sacred. Beauty is sacred. Flowers are sacred. Birds are sacred. And sacredness brings the perfume of love and compassion. Therefore, love and compassion are the perfume of sacredness.”~ Vasant Lad

Another aspect of spiritual detoxification and realizing unity and oneness is relinquishing the idea of separation between the different parts of life. We have been conditioned to separate and compartmentalize various aspects of ourselves and our lives. In reality, the whole of life is a spiritual practice, and the natural world is our temple. If we can walk with meaning, consciously perform even the most mundane tasks, and bring a sense of awe and wonder into every interaction, we bring sacredness into every corner of our lives.

This, of course, applies to our diet and lifestyle choices, too. When we appreciate the sacredness of life, including each being, plant, experience, and exchange, we naturally act with mindful compassion. Our compassion drives our choices. When this happens, the vegan lifestyle becomes a natural expression of our respect for the sacredness of life and an extension of our spiritual practice. We no longer compartmentalize our diet from our work from our practice – it is all part of our experience of being human in this space and time, opening to our spiritual potential, and walking the path toward total liberation.

Planting the Right Karma Seeds

“As she has planted, so does she harvest; such is the field of karma.”~ Sri Guru Granth Sahib

Karma is often grossly misunderstood. In Sanskrit, karma simply means ‘action.’ When spiritual philosophies talk about karma, they do not refer to fate and fortune or anything as mystical as that. The law of karma states that for every action, there will be a reaction that is equal to the energetic state of the action.

So, our thoughts, words, and actions create an energetic imprint or ‘seed,’ that has a positive energetic signature if it was a skillful thought, word, or action, or a negative energetic imprint if it was an unskillful one. These seeds are stored in our energetic body, in Muladhara chakra, and come to fruition in this lifetime or in lifetimes to come.

If the seed were a result of an unskillful thought, word, or action, this would result in negative mental and emotional states, such as guilt, envy, hatred, and anger. If these unhelpful states dominate our internal landscape from previous unskillful karmic seeds, they can cause us to make more poor choices, thus residing in a self-perpetuating cycle of negativity. Residing in these states makes it much harder for us to experience peace, raise our vibrational frequency, and progress spiritually.

By ensuring that from this moment onwards, the karmic seeds we are planting are a result of skillful thoughts, words, and actions, we pave the way for our future selves to experience a lightness of being, peace of mind, and spiritual progression. This is not a spiritual detoxification per se, but more of a preventative measure for future spiritual purity.

Peace

If we are peaceful, if we are happy, we can smile and blossom like a flower, and everyone in our family, our entire society, will benefit from our peace.~ Thich Nhat Hanh

Last but by no means least, living a vegan lifestyle and undertaking spiritual detoxification lets you experience a profound sense of peace. Taking into account all of the aspects that we have already discussed:

All these things combined lift a layer of heavy energy from your being and allow you to experience true peace.

You have resolved that inner ethical battle, which, even if it was subconscious, is still energetically draining. You have unified all the different aspects of your life, which again saves you energy. You have freed yourself from social conditioning and have begun to tap into spiritual wisdom instead. You have cleared and raised your vibrational frequency. All of these things help you feel more in the ‘flow’ of life, and in turn, to experience a more profound sense of peace. This deep peace is the ideal place from which you can grow and develop spiritually.

Three Tips for Success

If the information and ideas about spiritual detoxification we have shared resonate with you and you intend to give veganism a try, here are a few tips to help you. Also, ensure that you have read the first two articles in this series: article one – How to Create Vibrant Health with a Plant-Based Diet, and article two – Compassion: Liberation Through Veganism. These two articles complete the picture, and article one, in particular, gives you scientific and practical advice for what to eat to ensure you are getting all the nutrients you need.

1: Take it Slowly

There is no rush, and sometimes if you try to change everything at once, it can lead to overwhelm and aversion. We always recommend that you avoid extremes and practice balance. It is best to make small changes that you can integrate properly and sustain, than one huge change that results in you becoming overwhelmed and then blocking the idea completely. Small changes add up to big transformations if you are consistent.

2: You Only Fail if You Quit

There is no such thing as failure if you keep starting again. Keep moving forward, even if you fall off the proverbial wagon and end up eating something that you didn’t intend to. You are human, and you will make mistakes in life. But they are only mistakes if you don’t learn from them. Use these as opportunities to find out about yourself and how you can better support yourself to succeed with your goals.

3: Your Heart is Your Compass

Keep tuning in to your heart for guidance. If you are unsure whether a decision is the right one, drop down from your head into your heart. Connect with your core values and use your heart-mind to find the answer. If you use your heart as your compass, you will never be lost.
